Great Vaca…

This has been a super busy and fun spring break so far. Road trip one was to Angel Fire, NM. Driving to NM on Friday afternoon was a very long drive. Tulsa to Oklahoma city and then to Amarillo and onto Angel Fire. A 9 hour drive, of course we drove straight through. As my dad would say “we don’t let any grass grow under our feet.”
For the last week of the snow season in New Mexico, there was good snow on the mountain and more snow falling the entire time we were there.
I love snow skiing. I am going to have to try snow boarding the next time we go.

I think there about 8 restaurants in Angel Fire. I think we found the good ones. My favorite was the Roasted Clove. This was the best meal we had the entire time we were there. Monday night is their burger night. Filet migion, ground sirloin steak, guacamole, carmelized onions, well apparently I could just go on and on about this meal. They make their own spicy vinegarêtre, which might have been the best dressing that I have ever eaten.

It was sad yesterday when we left to come back to Oklahoma. It was snowing. This snow was the most beautiful snow I have ever seen. We got to use the four wheel drive in the new pickup.

I like it that 8 inches of snow doesn’t shut down communities in New Mexico and Colorado.

Adventure through Arkansas

Spending the long weekend on the motorcycle was a great getaway. Mike, myself, and my parents spent the weekend riding through Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. It was beautiful and was some much needed time spent with my husband. “I think the best investment we have made is our motorcycle” (Michael). I would have to agree with him. There is nothing like spending hours on a motorcycle together. It is just the two of you, the road, and nature around you. When you have spent so much time apart, even if you are just in other rooms, sitting on the motorcycle together was great quality time.  Some of the beautiful places through Arkansas:

There are lots of  beautiful hills, trees, and the sunshine was wonderful. The only bad part about riding in Arkansas are the chicken farms. They do not smell very good at all.  The curves are fun, even though you don’t want to be behind my dad on some of the hills because he makes sure he goes the speed limit, if not slower. You can tell by looking at the tires on our motorcycle that Mike likes to go around curves. Sometimes you can hear the pipes scrape the pavement, check out the chicken stipes on the tires.

Arkansas also has some beautiful parks, old civil war camps, and corp of engineer training camps. It was neat when we stopped at one of these camps, you could hear the wind blowing through the trees. The wind blowing through the trees was a soft hum that actually took us awhile to figure out what the noise was.

As always southeastern Oklahoma is beautiful. We made our way through the Talahina Drive to come back home.

After we finished the drive, we ended our day at Roseanna’s in Krebs, Oklahoma. It was so very delicious Italian food, might quite possibly be some of the best Italian food that I have ever eaten. If you are ever around the McCalister, Oklahoma area you should really stop by there and the Choc Beer Brewery. I don’t think you can go wrong with those decisions.

It was a great getaway. After putting 1,000 miles on the motorcycle and our butts, I was pretty glad to see Tulsa, but I am so glad that I got to spend an amazing weekend with the husband and the parents.  Now just a few more hours to relax and enjoy the Memorial Day Weekend before we have to go back to Tulsa, and back to the real world of work-study, dissection, and life. There will be more good adventures ahead this summer.

So far we have planned a float trip down the Illinois River, we shall see what else comes up.
